While not the first schedule after the reopening of the Atlantic City Line in 1989, this schedule was effective relatively soon after the reopening of the line.

(2002-09-23) Montclair Boonton Transition Schedule

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

As long as I introduced the first official Montclair Boonton Line Schedule, here is what is truly the first schedule to use the Montclair Connection.  This schedule was in effect for one week only while the final preperations were being made for the full service to begin the following week.

Apparently NJ Transit went to no major expense to print this schedule.

Also, it should be noted that this schedule is really only a compilation of the previous schedules on both lines.

NJ Transit Employee Schedules (1986-10-26)

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Here are some NJ Transit Employee Schedules from the mid 1980’s.  Notice that the Newark Division Schedule did not list the NE Corridor Line trains that ran to Jersey Avenue or Trenton.  Only the ones that ran via the North Jersey Coast Line were shown.

New Jersey Department of Transportation oversaw the rail operations in New Jersey for a very brief period.  This period was after the Penn Central / Erie Lackawanna era, but prior to NJ Transit taking control of operations.

Here is a schedule of the Morris & Essex Lines while under the control of NJDOT.  As one can see, the service was much more primitive than under NJ Transit’s control.

(1981-06-28) Main & Bergen County

It is difficult to imagine how a line like the Main & Bergen County Lines can have such a drastic service change comparing this 1981 schedule to today’s service.  Having only 3 weekday trains and one weekend train on the Port Jervis portion of the route is difficult for the webmaster to comprehend given today’s very frequent service during rush hour.

New Jersey Department of Transportation oversaw the rail operations in New Jersey for a very brief period.  This period was after the Penn Central / Erie Lackawanna era, but prior to NJ Transit taking control of operations.

Even though the name “Northeast Corridor Line” had not been given to the commuter line between Trenton, New Brunswick, Elizabeth, and New York, the line itself was still the heaviest patronized line of all of the NJDOT rail lines.

Unlike today’s service, Jersey Avenue Station had eastbound departures all day long.

NJ Transit Train Schedules

Friday, April 20th, 2007

New Jersey Transit is one of the largest commuter railroads in the United States. While currently operating a claimed 711 trains on each of the 12 rail lines, service has only increased on all of the rail lines since NJ Transit took over the operation of the rails in 1984. (more…)
